The working principle and use of the air valve in the coffee bag

Coffee is a central part of getting the energy of the day for many of us. Its smell awakens our body, while its aroma soothes our soul. People are more concerned about buying their coffee. Therefore, it is very important to serve your customers with the freshest coffee and keep them coming back again. The valve-packed coffee bag gives it a more appealing look and makes your customers come back with happy reviews.

It is important to generate more happy and loyal customers for your coffee brand. Is it right? This is where the coffee valve comes into the picture. A coffee valve and a coffee bag are a perfect match. One-way valves play a very important role in coffee packaging, as they provide suppliers with the perfect opportunity to pack coffee beans immediately after roasting. Carbon dioxide is bound to be produced after coffee beans are roasted.

This will reduce the freshness of the coffee if not handled with care. The one-way coffee valve allows the roasted coffee beans to escape, but does not allow airborne gases to enter the valve. This process keeps your coffee grind fresh and free of bacteria. This is exactly what customers want, a fresh and bacteria-free coffee grind or coffee beans.

Degassing valves are those tiny plastics that close the packaging of coffee bags.

Sometimes they are quite conspicuous because they look like a small hole that most customers usually don't notice.

Valve Functionality

one-way degassing valves are designed to allow pressure to be released from an airtight package while not allowing external atmosphere (i.e. air with 20.9% O2) to enter the package. A one-way degassing valve is useful for packaging products that are sensitive to oxygen and moisture and also release gas or entrapped air. The one-way degassing valve can be attached to a flexible package to relieve pressure built up in the package while protecting the interior contents from the damaging effects of oxygen and moisture.

When pressure inside a sealed package increases beyond the valve opening pressure, a rubber disk in the valve momentarily opens to allow gas to escape

out of the package. As gas is released and the pressure inside the package drops below the valve close pressure, the valve closes.

Open/Release Mode

(Releasing CO2 emitted from coffee)

This drawing is a cross section of a premade coffee bag with a one-way valve in the open/release mode. When pressure inside a sealed package increases beyond the valve opening pressure, the seal between the rubber disc and the valve body is momentarily interrupted and pressure can escape out of the package.

Air-Tight Closed Position

The CO2 pressure released from the fresh roasted coffee beans is low; therefore the valve is closed with an air-tight seal.

Degassing valve’s feature

Degassing valves are used in coffee bag packaging for many reasons. Some of these reasons include the following?

They help release the air inside the coffee bag, and in doing so they help prevent oxygen from entering the coffee bag.

They help keep moisture out of the coffee bag.

They help keep the coffee as fresh, smooth and balanced as possible.

They prevent clogging of coffee bags

Valve Applications

Fresh roasted coffee which generates gas inside the bag and also needs protection from oxygen and moisture.

Various specialty foods that have active ingredients such as yeast and cultures.

Large bulk flexible packages which require the release of excess air from packages for palletization.  (e.g.33 lbs. pet food, resin, etc.)

Other flexible packages with polyethylene (PE) interior that require one-way release of pressure from inside the package.

How to choose a coffee bag with valve?

There are a lot of things to consider before choosing a coffee bag with a valve. These considerations will help you make the best choice in terms of brand and choose the most effective coffee bag and valve for your packaging.

Some things to consider include the following:
